Conservation makes a splash in Clovis

EPCOR and School District pair up for Second Clovis Water Carnival

More than 550 students from across 12 elementary schools, 30 volunteers working more than 600 hours combined, and two days is what it took to pull off this year’s Clovis Water Carnival.

Members from across EPCOR’s Customer Care, Conservation, Public and Government Affairs, Operations and several community organizations put on quite the educational spectacle for nearly every 5th grade student in the Clovis Municipal Public School District on May 7-8. 

For the second year, EPCOR and the City held the water carnival to promote conservation and raise awareness of our most precious resource. In New Mexico, the state board of education introduces 5th grade students to the water cycle and a basic understanding of how communities receive their drinking water. 

To further advance that basic knowledge and to get young New Mexicans interested in the water field, EPCOR put on a series of fun and engaging educational activities including a water relay, water cycle station, carnival games, a water magician and educational demonstrations from the Hillcrest Zoo. 

This event was a smashing success. In the two days team EPCOR and its partners were able to give their firsthand knowledge about EPCOR’s role in the community and bring to life just how important water is to just about every 10 and 11-year-old in the community. Some key community partners included the Chamber of Commerce, Clovis High School’s FCCLA, the Parks and Recreation Department, the Clovis Fire Department and of course the City of Clovis. 

With the latest carnival already in the rear view mirror, our team is already looking forward to the next one!
