Deposits

Depending on your credit check results, we may require a deposit. Find out how your deposit is calculated and how you can get it waived or reduced.

ON THIS PAGE

Credit checks are common for many companies, including utilities, telecommunications, and also appear when applying for car loans, and bank loans or applications, and rental agreements.

How we calculate deposits

Your deposit amount depends on:

  • The type of service (residential or commercial)
  • The expected usage at your location

Your deposit amount will appear on your first bill 4-5 weeks after the service start date.

Ways to waive or reduce your deposit

Residential customers

There are three ways to waive a deposit:

  • A good credit rating (via an outside credit check)
  • A good payment history with us
  • Sign up for automatic withdrawal (you can also skip the credit check)

Commercial customers

In lieu of a deposit you may email the following documents:

  • An irrevocable letter of guarantee from a financial institution
  • A bond from an insurance company

Deposits can be assessed at any time even if you have existing regulated services. If you're an Encor customer, deposits will be assessed on your first bill.

You may be able to reduce the deposit on your account with automatic withdrawal

Keep your bills out of sight and out of mind by signing up for Automatic Withdrawal. By selecting automatic withdrawal you could reduce the deposit on your account.

Getting your deposit back

We hold security deposits for a minimum of 12 months or when services end, whichever comes first.

Get your deposit back by:

  • Paying your deposit by the due date
  • Paying your bill by the due date, in full, for 12 months in a row

We calculate your 12-month period starting on the deposit’s due date. Any delay paying the deposit or the account balance in full will delay your deposit refund and change the refund date. Your deposit refund will be returned to you as a credit on your bill.
