Incident and property claims

Property claims

EPCOR maintains the highest safety and construction standards, however, in some cases customers may have incurred property damage directly attributed to construction activities. Any claim related to construction activities will be fully investigated and adjudicated by an independent professional claims adjustor.

Service interruptions and outages

EPCOR responds to outages and service interruptions and takes prudent steps to ensure that disruption to your utility service is minimal. In addition, EPCOR investigates to determine the cause of the incident.

Doesn’t EPCOR have a responsibility to ensure that my utility service performs without interruption?

EPCOR’s first priority is to provide safe and reliable utility services to our customers. However, EPCOR cannot guarantee that its distribution systems are capable of operating 100% of the time without interruption or event.

Although EPCOR implements strict maintenance practices – and operational procedures of the highest standards – incidents do occur as a result of acts of nature, or equipment failure, that are in no way related to EPCOR’s actions. In these cases, EPCOR cannot accept liability for the incident. Insurance against all events that occur to the distribution system is not a normal standard in the utility industry and is not part of EPCOR’s business.

Review and processing of claims

Claims of any nature against EPCOR are processed by an independent professional claims adjuster, who reviews and investigates them on an individual basis. The adjuster acts as EPCOR's agent in investigating claims and making recommendations to EPCOR regarding its liability position.

How to make a claim

Your protection from any losses is to make a claim either against your personal homeowner’s insurance or the responsible party.

If you wish to make a claim in relation to an incident involving EPCOR, please complete an incident report.

If you use the incident report, you may expect the adjuster to work with you and sort through the facts surrounding the incident and inform you of the final determination of the claim.
